About me

I heard from my doctor this afternoon. She called to let me know that my MRI came back with all good results. She said I should still follow up with the neurologist to see why I am getting such server headaches so often. So, I have another appointment for the second week of October to hear I am just really, really stressed out.

While the cat is away this mouse watches a lot of movies ! I know, I am getting all crazy and wild in my old age. I was invited to a “girls night” party last night but I chose to spend time in a dark theater with Richard Gere instead.

I can’t say I was disappointed because I enjoyed the movie. It is very well acted and well made but it felt just a little flat in spots compared to the book. I guess it’s impossible to hold the entire feel of a book, especially with such an emotional story.
I would still recommend the movie to anyone who loves a good love story. Richard Gere and Diane Lane were both fabulous. As was the entire cast. Just don’t forget your tissues.

Friday night Bethany and I were up until 3:00am eating ice cream and watching chick flicks. We rented P.S. I love You, Maid of Honor and Smart People.
Here are my quick little reviews;

P.S. I Love You - I liked it more then I thought I would but said the words how dumb more then once. I would give it 5 or 6 stars out of 10.

Made Of Honor - It was Ok for a rental. I am not a big Patrick Dempsey fan and think I could have liked it more with some one else in the lead role. I would give it 4 out of 10 stars.

Smart People - LOVED it ! I am always a fan of real human stories. Damaged people. This one is so subtle and so very well written. Not a bad performance in the bunch. I would give it 9.5 out of 10 stars.

If there really is a heaven this man is sure to be there! I am truly saddened by the loss of Paul Newman. If you know me, you already know how I adored him, not only for his work on the big screen but for his kindness and what he and his wife of 50 years contributed to the big picture of so many lives.

Oh, and how easy he was on the eyes !! Mixed with that charisma and charm, he was one of the few I consider a true movie star.

The screen legend Paul Newman has died at the age of 83 after losing a long battle against cancer.

Newman died yesterday at his farmhouse near Westport, Connecticut, said his publicist, Jeff Sanderson. He was surrounded by family and close friends.

Newman was nominated for an Oscar 10 times, winning a best actor trophy in 1987 for The Colour Of Money. The actor with the piercing blue eyes is best known for his leading roles in The Hustler, Cool Hand Luke and for playing opposite longtime friend Robert Redford in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

In May 2007 he said he was giving up acting. “I’m not able to work anymore ... at the level that I would want to,” he told the US broadcaster ABC.

Newman initially tried to play down concerns about his health after reports that he was having cancer treatment in New York. This year he pulled out of directing a Connecticut stage production of John Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men because of unspecified health problems.

AE Hotchner, who helped create the successful Newman’s Own food company in 1982, confirmed in June that the actor had been ill for 18 months. “It’s a form of cancer, and he’s dealing with it. Paul is a fighter,” Hotchner told the Associated Press.

All proceeds from Newman’s Own salad dressings and snacks go to charity, and the actor became a leading advocate for corporate philanthropy. Fox news reported this week that Newman gave away $120m in 2005 and 2006.

The vice-chairman of Newman’s Own Foundation, Robert Forrester, today praised the Hollywood star’s dedication to charity work.

“Paul Newman’s craft was acting. His passion was racing. His love was his family and friends. And his heart and soul were dedicated to helping make the world a better place for all,” Forrester said.

“Paul had an abiding belief in the role that luck plays in one’s life, and its randomness. He was quick to acknowledge the good fortune he had in his own life, beginning with being born in America, and was acutely aware of how unlucky so many others were. True to his character, he quietly devoted himself to helping offset this imbalance.”

Forrester said Newman’s Own went from being “something of a joke” to a highly respected food company bringing in millions of dollars a year and with profits of $250 million to date going to charity.

Twenty years ago, Newman created the Hole in the Wall holiday camps for children with life-threatening conditions. More than 135,000 children have attended the camps.

Forrester said: “Paul took advantage of what life offered him, and while personally reluctant to acknowledge that he was doing anything special, he forever changed the lives of many with his generosity, humour and humanness. His legacy lives on in the charities he supported and the Hole in the Wall camps, for which he cared so much.

“We will miss our friend Paul Newman, but are lucky ourselves to have known such a remarkable person.”

After working on this mess until about 9:00pm again last night and leaving a beautiful clean yard with only a stump where the dead ugly tree once was, my husband was up at 3:15am packing up his truck for his annual fishing trip with the guys.

Every year Gerry, my dad and five or six other men share a cabin in Canada for five days and fish their hearts outs. From sun up to sun down they fish! My husband looks forward to this trip all year. He has been too busy to do any fishing this season other then our Labor Day weekend up north so as much as I miss him when he’s gone, I am so glad he has this chance.

My husband and a couple of guys on our block took down our front yard tree yesterday after work. It was hit by lightening last year and turned in to an eye sore fast. Even the cement surrounding it was turning black. It was a huge and really loud job! They worked for five hours with out a break before it got too dark outside and there is still a mess to clean up today. After the main trunk came down and was cut up I served some pizza and a few beers. We sure are blessed to have such nice neighbors who were so willing to help out. I think the last guy left some where after 9:00 or 9:30pm.

About me

I have been feeling a lot better the last few days and then out of no where it’s all back again. My head is killing me and my stomach is sick again.
I hate this!

General

I work in a small office. Basically, it’s a two person office and the owner spends his time in the building. It’s a third generation machine shop. Yep, they have been in business for over 65 years and for the last ten or fifteen, not much has changed. I still use a typewriter for some of my daily updating, we use a DOS system on our network and our phones are a good 12 years old, no voice mail. Some of that is about to change! We had two companies come in to quote new phones this week. The whole package, voice mail and everything! Next I hope to sway them in to being able to accept credit cards. Now that I found out how easy is it.OnlineChecks.com offers a simple and easy to follow program to for any office to use. No fees, no contracts, and a free credit card machine. I shouldn’t have a problem explaining that one to my boss. OnlineChecks.com pretty much sells it’s self. Gosh, I feel like finally, my office is getting with the times.
