Gerry and I drove home late last night, about 2:00am. We couldn’t have asked for a better weekend. It was a blast!
There was a lot of good food, great people and as always ton of laughs! And my gawd, a lot of drinking. A great way to spend a weekend.

It was nice to see my parents having such a good time. My running joke over the weekend was “ I can’t keep up with my retired parents” maybe when I retire I’ll be able to handle all this partying? Honestly, I hope to be half as young and happy as they are, thirty years from now, when I am in my sixty’s.

Sorry, no pictures.

I’ll be back some time Sunday evening with pictures to post.

Daily BS

You know what the best kind of Humpday is? The kind when you have the next five days off!! Some times I really dig working in the automotive industry. Instead of sitting behind my desk tomorrow, I will be spending my time having lunch in the park with Allison and Roxy.

Allison said to me early this morning while in the car, if I could have any three wishes to come true I would wish to be a Super Hero! Then my number two wish would be that I could make any thing happen that I want to happen, that would be like my super power. Then number three, my biggest wish, is that I could have a real big cookie with sprinkles on it every morning when I wake up. Yep, that would be my wishes.
I love the way kids think. But really, the big cookie thing, every morning, sounds pretty cool. I think that might make me happy.

FDA OKs nonprescription ‘morning-after’ pill
Decision allows over-the-counter sale of Plan B for those 18 or older

The FDA announced it will allow Plan B, the so-called morning after pill, to be sold without a prescription to women 18 or older.
Updated: 11:46 a.m. ET Aug. 24, 2006

WASHINGTON - Women may buy the morning-after pill without a prescription — but only with proof they’re 18 or older, federal health officials decided Thursday. The Food and Drug Administration ruling culminated a contentious three-year effort to ease access to the emergency contraceptive.

Girls 17 and younger still will need a doctor’s note to buy the pills, called Plan B, the FDA told manufacturer Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc.

The compromise decision is a partial victory for women’s advocacy and medical groups which say eliminating sales restrictions could cut in half the nation’s 3 million annual unplanned pregnancies. Opponents have argued that wider access could increase promiscuity.

The long delay had ensnared President Bush’s nominee to head the FDA. On Thursday, two senators said they would lift their blockade, making confirmation of Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach as FDA’s commissioner likely next month.

The pills are a concentrated dose of the same drug found in many regular birth-control pills. Taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex, a woman can lower the risk of pregnancy by up to 89 percent. If she already is pregnant, the pills have no effect.

The earlier it’s taken, the more effective Plan B is. But it can be hard to find a doctor to write a prescription in time, especially on weekends and holidays. Hence the push to allow nonprescription sales.

Barr has said it hopes to begin nonprescription sales of Plan B by the end of the year. The pills will be sold only from behind the counter at pharmacies — so the pharmacist can check photo identification — but not at convenience stores or gas stations.

I am very pro choice but please do not confuse that with “pro abortion” ! Sadly too many people do.
This is not an abortion pill, when used correctly it stops the hormones before the egg even begin creating.
Just think how many women would have taken this pill at just the chance of becoming pregnant instead of waiting and then later aborting. I mean even rape victims alone.
I don’t understand how any one could see this drug as not a good thing. No matter what side of choice you are on.

Daily BS

I have absolutely no plans for this weekend. No commitment’s at all. I have a few things in mind like clean the house and take Allison for her new school supplies. But even those are iffy, depending on my mood. I do see myself spending some time here on the computer and some time with my DVR, I have Nip Tuck forums and episodes of Windfall to catch up on.
It feels kind of nice not to have plans, it’s been a while.

Update on Roxy: She is feeling much better. No more throwing up and she is back to her playful self. Of course she was up and ready to play around midnight but at least she is feeling better.

A police situation came to an end as a gunman who shot a woman shoots himself in the head. The shooting took place near the Allen Park Summer Camp, but no children were harmed.

Lt. Robert Steele said police saw the man, whom police are not identifying pending notification of his family, hide behind some bushes on the grounds of the nearby school. They cordoned off the area and put the school, which was conducting summer camp on lockdown.  After waiting 15 minutes for the man, 44, to respond, police heard a single gunshot and then found the man dead of an apparent self-inflicted wound to the head, Steele said. The woman, 36, is in critical condition at Detroit Receiving Hospital. Police also are not yet releasing her name.

My daughter Allison (7) was on the playground just a few feet away from the shooting and heard it happen. She told me she heard two loud gun shots. Thankfully she was not one of the few kids that saw the shooting. My heart goes out to them. I can’t even imagine dealing with that at such a young age. Most are first graders. The kids were suppose to be enjoying their end of summer picnic today but instead spent their time in lockdown.

Of course my thoughts and prayers go out to the victim. We live in a pretty safe neighborhood but I guess these things can happen anywhere.
I am a little freaked out and shocked.
