Gerry and I watched Death Sentence staring Kein Bacon last night. First let me just say it is NOT a movie to watch right before going to bed. We both tossed and turned through the night.
I am not sure how to review this movie. But I’ll give it a try under the cut because of possible spoilers....
Key points if you don’t want to know any thing that MIGHT be a spoiler , violent, very violent, over the top acting but sucked me in to the story. Depressing, very depressing. Look for a great performance by John Goodman. Worth the rent. Did I say violent and depressing enough? Probably not.
The acting and the story is at times very over the top and yet I was glued to it. I have to point out a great performance by John Goodman as a loud mouth, ruff ass gun lord. The movie is extremely violent, and depressing with no happy ending. Way too violent for my usual taste in movies but I didn’t turn it off. I can handle violence but there is just some thing about the way James Wan directs a film that is far too intense for me. I will never see any of his Saw films. Any way, this story stuck with me and made me think about how fast life can change. Just when you feel you have it all it can be gone in minutes. How a good man can be pushed over the edge. In my opinion any movie that can keep me thinking the next day and leaves me feeling the story enough to keep me up at night is a well done movie. If you can handle the glorified violence and an over acted and directed movie you might feel the same way and get sucked in by this one like I did. For me it was worth the rent.
