Allison brought home her report card the other day. As always she did great academically. I am so proud of her and how good her grades are. We would be doing some thing special to celebrate over the weekend if it wasn’t for the letter that came home with her report card this time. The letter was from her gym teacher.  Not only did she again get a lower grade in gym of all classes but my daughters behavior has been so bad that the teacher took the time to send us a separate letter in detail. Details that included such phrases as, interrupts the class, interrupts the teach, does not follow direction, needs to keep her hands and feet to her self, needs to learn to stand or sit still in line and of course does not work well with others. You get the picture. How does one manage to struggle with this many issues in gym class? You go, you do what you are told, throw some balls, run around and line up. It’s third grade! Gym, is a sure thing class when you are a young kid! An easy class !
I had to explain to her that this kind of hehavior takes away from how hard she works on her grades. So we wont be doing any thing fun and special to celebrate them this card marking and that breaks my heart.

This is just my opinion, but I wouldn’t be too hard on her for this. She is doing good in her other classes and doesn’t seem to have any behavioral problems there. It sounds more like there is other element that is bringing this about in Gym class. Maybe it’s another student or teacher. I’d rather have her doing well in the other classes and not so well in Gym than reversed.

Bless her heart, gym of all things.  Usually gym is because they just can’t physically do it.  I hate she got left out for these reasons.  Caleb just got into gifted but he still didn’t make his last honor roll because he and one teacher just can’t get along and she demerits him all the time and thus no matter what his grades he misses the fun honor roll celebrations.  I am not so sure I agree that certain things should keep you off the honor roll when your grades in real subjects are great...like gym.  And it couldn’t hurt to go to the teacher to ask just what can Allison do to make this go away.

I think it’s the teacher too. A personal visit might be worth a try. Sounds like she’s a good girl.So somethings not right.
